Southfield to host Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival August 10 & 11  2018.

The Festival will also feature a variety of food trucks and other vendors

(SOUTHFIELD, Mich.) — The city of Southfield will host the 3rd annual Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival, presented by Varsity Lincoln, on Friday, August 10 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 11 from 3:00-10:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the Southfield Municipal Campus, 26000 Evergreen Road.

The two-day event will feature live music, food trucks, boutique vendors and more. Kimmie Horne will perform both days, headlining the festival on Saturday and performing a special female duet collaboration with members from Grammy-nominated jazz group Straight Ahead on Friday. The festival will also feature performances by Straight Ahead, Kathy Kosins, Penny Wells, Shelia Landis, Rick Matle, Rayse Biggs, Amy Lee and music director Al McKenzie. Additionally, Saturday’s event will include a special presentation honoring legendary jazz singer Ursula Walker with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival is free and open to the public. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Parking will be available on the Southfield Municipal Campus for $10 in both the north and south parking lots and in front of the Municipal Campus on the corner of Evergreen Road and Civic Center Drive. Food will be available for purchase.

The third annual Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival is sponsored by Varsity Lincoln, the city of Southfield, MGM Grand Detroit, the DTE Foundation, Holly Construction, Ascension, the Dirty Dog Jazz Café, Bricker Tunis Furs, Dexibell Digital Piano and General RV Center. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Southfield Public Arts Commission.

Kimmie Horne is an internationally renowned vocalist, model and actress. A descendant of legendary songstress and actress Lena Horne and singer/songwriter Cleveland Horne of the Fantastic Four, Kimmie has left her musical mark around the world from Detroit to Tokyo. Kimmie launched the Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival in 2016 and has worked tirelessly to grow the festival each year, hoping to one day expand the festival internationally.  The 3rd Annual Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival is preparing to be bigger and better than ever at its new location on the grounds of The Southfield Pavilion in Southfield, MI. This 2-day boutique festival scheduled for August 10th and 11th will once again be filled with dynamic performances from stellar artists including the amazingly talented Kimmie Horne descendant of the legendary songstress and actor Lena Horne. The event will also include a Lifetime Achievement Award presentation to a very deserving legendary singer.

Touting crowds of over 5-thousand last year, this year’s event is expected to double in attendance. The beautiful City of Southfield, home of over 80-thousand residents and surrounded by many diversely populated cities allows for an expanded more exciting, high energy festival.  

Kimmie’s heart for giving back is displayed through her many charitable contributions This is also displayed through the Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival which has partnered once again with a deserving local charity to benefit families in need of support. The Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children and will be the two-time recipient of a monetary donation to support its cause. Last year’s major gift assisted with the "For Your Entertainment" area of the new Family Room for the Ronald McDonald House in the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. 

Kimmie Horne continues to balance worldwide travels along with her hometown loyalty. Recently voted “Most Outstanding Jazz Vocalist" at the Detroit Music Awards, she also makes regular appearances and performs in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Japan, and more.
